- WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO DIVE IN SOCORRO?
The best time to dive Socorro is in winter (November-May), as the only way to reach the island is by cruise ship, which only leaves when sea conditions are calmer. Temperatures range from 28°C (82°F) in November and 21°C (69°F) in February to 25°C (68°F) in May. These rich winter months offer Socorro Island’s main diving spectacles: whale sharks, Pacific manta rays and thousands of humpback whales come here to breed and give birth. January to March is the best time to see bottlenose dolphins, silky sharks, Galapagos sharks, white-tip sharks and silver-tip sharks are present throughout the season. The plankton blooms that attract these pelagics can reduce visibility, but the impressive encounters are well worth the effort.
